What is Illinois Health Agent?

Illinois Health Agent is the website run by Mohring Insurance Services, LLC where Illinoisans can shop for, compare and enroll in high-quality health insurance through the Get Covered Illinois program vetted by the state. Illinois Health Agent can help you apply for and receive tax credits to help cover the cost of your coverage.

Who can get coverage through Illinois Health Agent?

You can buy a Get Covered Illinois health plan and enroll through Illinois Health Agent if:

* You live in Illinois

* You are a U.S. citizen or national or a lawfully present non-citizen in the U.S.

* You are not incarcerated

* You do not have health insurance through an employer, Medicare, Medicaid, Children's Insurance Program (CHIP), or

other source that provides qualifying health coverage.

If you were enrolled in the Health Benefits for Immigrant Adults (HBIA) program that ended July 1, 2025 and are a legal permanent resident, you may be eligible for coverage through Illinois Health Agent. To see if you qualify, go to Enroll

How do I shop for an enroll in coverage?

Illinois Health Agent lets you easily shop for and compare different health plans. To shop for a plan, fill out our Health Application Form. We will send your plan options by email. When you've found a plan that fits your needs and budget, you can set an appointment for one of our advocates to get you enrolled.

When can I enroll in a health plan through Illinois Health Agent?

Illinoisans can enroll in health coverage each year during open enrollment. This year, open enrollment starts on November 1 and ends on January 15. If you or someone in your household experiences a life change, such as losing health insurance coverage from a job, getting married or having a baby, you may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.

How can I get help applying for or enrolling in a plan?

Call the Illinois Health Agent Assistance Center at 1-866-440-1885. Our Customer Care Advocates can help you apply for and enroll in coverage.

How much will health insurance cost?

There are a few things that will affect your cost of insurance, including:

* Age

* Household income

* Household size

* Where you live

* Tobacco use

* The type of insurance plan that you buy

You may also qualify for financial help from the federal government to help lower the cost of coverage.

How do I qualify for financial help?

Illinois Health Agent can help lower your monthly premium and/or out-of-pocket costs in two ways: Advance Premium Tax Credits (APTC) and Cost-Sharing Reductions (CSR). Your eligibility to get financial help is based on factors ssuch as income and household size. To find out if you qualify for financial help, call one of our Customer Care Advocates at 1-866-440-1885 or fill out a Health Coverage Application online.

What information do I need to enroll in health coverage through Illinois Health Agent?

You will need information about you and your household, such as:

* Social Security numbers (if you have one)

* Birth dates

* Employer

* Projected income information

* Most recent tax returns

* Immigration documents (if applicable)

What do marketplace health insurance plans cover?

All plans available through the Get Covered Illinois marketplace cover these essential benefits:

* Children's services, including dental and vision care

* Emergency services (even at out-of-network hospitals)

* Hospital stays and surgery

* Laboratory services

* Mental health and substance use disorder services, including behavioral health treatment

* Outpatient services

* Pregnancy, maternity and newborn care

* Prescription drugs

* Preventive and wellness services and chronic disease management

* Rehabilitative and habilitative services and devices that help patients acquire, maintain, or improve skills necessary for

daily functioning.

What kind of plans are offered through the Marketplace?

There are 4 categories of plans offered through the Marketplace: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Catastrophic.

* Bronze - Low monthly cost, highest out-of-pocket costs

* Silver - A balance between monthly costs and out-of-pocket costs. If you qualify for additional savings (Cost-Sharing

Reductions), you must pick a Silver plan to use them.

* Gold - Higher monthly cost, lower out-of-pocket costs

* Catastrophic - Low monthly costs but mostly cover emergencies; only for people under 30

My insurer is not on the marketplace anymore. How do I choose a new plan?

If your insurer is no longer available, Illinois Health Agent can enroll you in a comparable plan. You can apply for a new plan by using our Shop and Enroll tool and we will make sure to enroll you in coverage that best meets your health and financial needs.

How do I reconcile my Advance Premium Tax Credits on my federal taxes?

If you received Advance Premium Tax Credits (APTC), you must file a federal tax return and report your APTC. For more information on how to reconcile your APTC, go to Taxes and Form 1095-A

How do I file an appeal or complaint?

If you enroll in a Get Covered Illinois plan and you do not agree with a decision your insurance company makes about your coverage, there is help available. The Illinois Department of Insurance - Office of Consumer Health Insurance (OCHI) can answer your questions about filing a complaint or an external review. File a complaint
